5 Greatest and Favorite Rappers of All-Time

Favorite: preferred above all others and treated with partiality.
Greatest: highest in quality

See. There is a difference. When the discussion of the G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time) comes about, I usually refrain from that conversation. Especially when it pertains to rap. Why?

Because people tend to get greatest and favorite mixed up. For example, Soulja Boy is one of the best rappers of all-time. No! No matter how much you like Soulja Boy- he is not one of the greatest rappers of all time. Soulja boy is talented, but he’s far from being great.

Another time I silence my speech is when opinions are too one-sided. You can like Nas and Jay-Z. You wouldn’t do hip-hop any credit if you neglected the two.

With that being said, here’s a list of the Top 5 Greatest Rappers of All-Time as well as my personal 5 favorite rappers.

5. Eminem
Success is him and he is success. He is a modern day Elvis. He is a modern day Beetles. He is Slim Shady. Check his catalogue. Much need not be said about why Eminem takes the 5th spot. He literally takes the 5th spot.

4. Nas
I put Nas in the fourth spot because although he is a pilgrim and pioneer of hip-hop with his classic ‘Illmatic’ album and notable album ‘It Was Written’, Nas falls just short of the two late greats.

3 & 2. Tupac & Biggie
Depending on what coast you represent, Tupac and Biggie can be interchanged. However, because of Tupac’s upbringing in an arts school- we can hear the poetic and relatable sound in his music.

BROOKLYN! He carried the city on his back during his prime years. He did it when rap was at its peak on the East Coast. He gave light to Mob Deep and not only just Brooklyn rappers, but also rappers from Queens as well. He was a rap idol.

1. Jay-Z
This isn’t because he’s my favorite but because he’s the best. Somebody told me that I would like Nas better if Jay-Z didn’t have the swag that he does. He raps with swag. That was dumb. Jay-Z is the best who’s ever done it. Look at the accomplishments. He’s the only rapper that has a lyric that can touch you when you’re in any kind of mood. He’s so talented they rumor he sold his soul to the devil. #hmph enough said.

Now here are my 5 current favorite rappers: I like rappers that teach me things. Help me cope with life lessons as I struggle and wander to find my place in this world. Enjoy!

5. Kid Cudi
I like Cudi because I can relate. His album helped me to understand a lot of things that were going on in my life at one point.

4. Rick Ross
He’s a poet. It doesn’t matter if he was a Correctional Officer. He has three number one albums. I think I’ve heard about 10 songs that were below average. And he’s doing his thing right now.

3. Lupe
I even had to download the Lupe before the mixtapes. My homie Eric asked me had I heard Kick Push before? I hadn’t, but since then it’s been smooth sailing. Lupe makes you think. When I learned about Karl Marx and communism- Lupe made much more sense.

2. Jay-Z
Type Jay-Z in the search bar at the top of my page and you’ll see why!

1. Kanye
At the end of the day, I’d tell Kanye to kick rocks, but that’s because my ego can’t stand personalities that are bigger. At the same time, I like how he puts the lyrical aspect back into rapping.
