RECAP: Mr. Hip Presents Elle Gomes

If You Are Reading This,

It was my pleasure to present the beautiful vocals of Elle Gomes for the first #MrHip Presents reading series last Saturday. Her back-up singer, if you can call her a back-up singer, took the stage and wowed the crowd as a wonderful duo.

I decided to start this poetry reading series because there needs to be a bridge between the phenomenal poets and spoken word artists in the city of Boston and the states of New England. There were 120+ people who came out to support the power of words through poetry and spoken word and for that I am extremely grateful.

All-in-all the night was fun. We gave away poetry books from The Grolier Poetry Bookshop (in Harvard Square) to those who were the most engaged in the crowd, we celebrated a few birthdays, and got to check out some awesome art displayed at the Lily Pad. Thanks to all the stores (book shops, coffee shops, tattoo shops, art galleries, etc) that put up the flyer. Maybe now we can get some more local support for the next event. Thanks to all the readers and performers too.

Dara Wier, reading from her latest book, YOU GOOD THING, quieted the audience as she read her poetry with poise. Keith Gaboury and Patrick Connolly opened the show up with their poems. Charlotte Seley added to the fun with her poems. Jerry Fagerberg and Selina Johnson took the crowd by surprising with their performances. It was clear that the night was not your average poetry night. It was something more.

The crowd was very engaging over social media. Here are a few of TWEETS and INSTAGRAM photos that capture the night. If you have more, please do send them to me via the email button at the bottom of this page.

Photos from the event will be be posted over at the Mr. Hip Presents Tab. The next Mr. Hip Presents will be September 28th from 2pm-5pm at the Bromfield Art Gallery (450 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA). Hope you can make it out. The first installment was classy. Let’s make the second one fancy 🙂

Thanks for reading this too,

Mr. Hip (but you can call me Donald)
