The time is upon us once again. On Saturday, September 28th from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, the second installment of the reading series Mr. Hip Presents will bring you a cast of awesome poets and a very special musical guest.
This next event will be historic meaning it will not only be captivating, but it will also be in the historic SoWa (South of Washington Street) District in the South End at the Bromfield Gallery (450 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA). Cheese and Sparkling Cider will be provided. To support the series in all its endeavors, there will be a ($5) suggested donation.

Wendy: Wendy Mnookin’s books are The Moon Makes Its Own Plea, What He Took, To Get Here, and Guenever Speaks. Widely in journals and anthologies, Wendy received the Sheila Motten Book Award and a Fellowship from the NEA. She teaches poetry at Emerson College and at Grub Street. Harris: Harris organizes Cofounder of the Breaking Bagels with Bards, Harris Gardner’s poetry organization “Tapestry of Voices” puts on the Boston National Poetry Festival for the last decade at the Boston Public Library in Copley Square.
Jade: Jade Sylvan is an award-winning poet and nonfiction writer whose poetry and essays have been published in over twenty journals, websites, and magazines. Jade won the 2011 Bayou Poetry Prize, and was a finalist in the 2012 Bunchgrass Poetry Prize and the 2012 Write Bloody Book Competition. Jade’s received artist grants from The Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Vermont Studio Center, and Amethyst Arsenic, and was nominated “Best Poet” by the Boston Phoenix newspaper in 2013. Jade is a member of the 2013 Boston Poetry Slam Team. Kissing Oscar Wilde is forthcoming on Write Bloody Press in 2013.
Ron: Currently working at the Harvard School of Public Health, Spalletta has been in love with poetry since the 7th/8th grade. With a MFA from Emerson College, Ron is sure to please all with his wise and winning words of poetry.
Krysten: Krysten Hill hails from Kansas City Missouri. She is a recent graduate from the MFA program at UMASS. She has featured at the Cantab, Literary Firsts, U35, Stone Soup, Breakwater Reading Series, and the first Somerville Encyclopedia Show. She is published and forthcoming in PANK, apt, and Amethyst Arsenic. Her greatest desire is to form a collective of women poets who travel around teaching the power of voice to the girls on front porches who wonder what that aching in their chests is all about.
Meaghan: Meaghan Ford is a writer from New Jersey who fell in love with the big city shit. She’s a regular at the Boston Poetry Slam at the Cantab Lounge and was a member of the 2013 Mill City team. She was a 2012 Write Bloody finalist and has been published in Danse Macabre, The Orange Room Review, and New Verse News to name a few.
Kyle: MFA student at Emerson, grad of Brown U, lover of jazz, museum flaneur. Least favorite question: “What do you write about?” Likeliest response: uncertainty.
Maria: Maria Dontas always knew she wanted to be a singer after spending majority of her time in the womb. Since then, she has opened up for a Jack’s Mannequin concert and placed top 5 in a national contest held by CosmoGirl Magazine. She is also the winner of the Essex County Singer-Songwriter Competition. Her music travels the road of pop, folk, rock, and soul music. Singing live with music from the Jordan Carter trio, this is one performance you won’t want to miss.
